MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) Marshfield Clinic is dropping plans to build a new hospital in Marshfield. Instead they will buy St. Joseph’s Hospital from rival Ministry Health Care. Both sides announced a non-binding agreement on Friday. The final terms of the purchase have not been finalized.
Marshfield Clinic had announced plans last year to build a new, 200-bed, $175-million hospital in Marshfield. Ministry had urged Marshfield city leaders to block the proposal, claiming the city was not big enough to support two hospitals. The project still won approval from the plan commission and the zoning board.
Under the agreement Ministry would take over the Diagnostic & Treatment Center in Weston from Marshfield Clinic.
The deal may not be finalized until mid-2016.
