STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The City of Stevens Point will look very different for cyclists in a few years thanks to a Department of Transportation grant.
The city just applied for silver status as a Bike Friendly Community with the League of American Bicyclists. New bike paths should help in that cause. The project received just under $400,000 from the state DOT to help form the bike lanes on city streets as part of a Transportation Alternative Program grant.
Only 80% of the project can be funded with the grant, so the city still has just under $100,000 of the bill left to foot. Design for the project begins next year. Construction isn’t expected to pick up until 2019.
