MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — It was the official groundbreaking for the new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Center at the UW. Marshfield-Wood County Campus late Tuesday.
Executive Officer and Dean of the U.W. Colleges Northern Region, Keith Montgomery, was one of the featured speakers, and said the new building anticipates the educational needs of the future. “This project represents a significant step forward in the history of this campus as it enters it’s second half century. The Everett Roehl STEM Center I think will be the foundation of the next 50 years of education.”
Montgomery said the new building wouldn’t be possible without a partnership between the private sector and several public entities. “This building represents a continuing tradition here at U.W. Marshfield-Wood County of partnership between government and private donors in support of educational opportunities.”
Wood County and the City of Marshfield have each contributed $1 million dollars to the project, and $5.6 million dollars have been raised from private donations including major funding from Everett Roehl, founder of Roehl Transport.
The new STEM building will also serve as the main entrance to the campus, with a new entry drive and an energy efficient glass design that’s “state-of-the-art.” Construction should be completed by mid-May of 2017, and renovations on existing science facilities should be completed in time for fall 2017 classes.
