WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Citizen Action of Wisconsin will be holding an event in Wausau later today to discuss the Foxconn deal for the state and how it could have lasting negative effects.
Joel Lewis is a Community Organizer for Citizen Action of Wisconsin. He says he believes the $3 billion incentive package the state is proposing to give to Foxconn could be used more wisely throughout the state.
“That’s really what we’re asking for. For (the money) to be spent on family sustaining jobs that are also good for the environment. We don’t need anymore companies that are going to pollute the environment. If they’re going to come here, I don’t think that we should give them government dollars to do so,” he said.
Lewis says he’s not really sure how to gage how successful events like this can be getting back to lawmakers.
“I don’t think everyone always likes this tactic of a press event or a rally, but in some ways I don’t know how else we can have our voices heard,” said Lewis. “Because when we do lobby a lot of our representatives who are adversarial or opposing our views on something like this, they ignore us and they won’t listen.”
Lewis did make a point to mention that he does believe area lawmakers are very good and do listen when people present ideas to them.
The event is being held outside of the River Front development site near 1300 N River Drive in Wausau at 2pm. WSAU will have continuing coverage on this even throughout the day.
