MOSINEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A new body scanner was revealed at Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee on Thursday.
The new Advanced Imaging Technology (ATI-2) unit is valued at $104,000 and is part of a nationwide upgrade by the Transportation Safety Administration. The new equipment safely screens passengers for metallic and non-metallic threats like weapons and explosives that could be concealed under clothing without touching the passenger.
“Nationally, the agency spent $21 million on the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT). I am proud to say all of Wisconsin’s airports now have machines,” Wisconsin TSA Director Mark Lendvay said. “The machine is also designed to enhance privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images. This machine is gender-neutral and uses a generic image for all passengers.”
The AIT-2 uses electromagnetic waves to perform a single scan. The security upgrade is just the latest in improvements at CWA, including a complete front-end renovation completed in 2016 and the addition of TSA Precheck lines for qualified travelers to bypass some security inconveniences.
