MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — Governor Scott Walker made a stop in Mosinee Thursday night to honor the Pinewood Supper Club for being named a top 3 finalist in the “Travel Wisconsin Supper Club Showdown”.
Gov. Walker says supper clubs are great attraction for people who live in Wisconsin and for people visiting the state as well.
“It’s more than just a good meal. It’s a lot of memories. Typically, like here at Pinewood, some good scenery and great staff. That’s what makes a supper club experience. It’s more than just the food, although that’s pretty good too, it’s the whole experience. That’s what we’re highlighting as part of travelwisconsin.com.”
Pinewood Supper Club received about 129,000 votes in the contest. Gov. Walker also visited Lehman’s Supper Club & Cocktail Lounge in Rice Lake and Ishnala Supper Club in Lake Delton on Thursday.
While in Mosinee Thursday night the governor discussed other topics, including Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke announcing his resignation.
Gov. Walker says he hasn’t received an official notice yet, but once he does he will go about finding a new sheriff for Milwaukee County the same way he has for other counties in the past.
“For us, it’s why we have a panel of law enforcement experts that help us look through and do background checks on the people that apply,” said Walker. “We want people that are going to be good leaders. In this case, obviously, we have a very large, high profile law enforcement agency. Our goal is going to be to get people who are qualified to be leaders of a law enforcement agency in the state.”
Gov. Walker also praised those who have been helping with the relief efforts in Texas following Hurricane Harvey.
Gov. Walker says with all the talk recently about division within the country, it’s amazing to see people come together like this in a time of need.
“When you see the people from Wisconsin and around the country stepping up to help their fellow citizens, I think that’s what America is all about. It’s looking out for people regardless of race, regardless of where they live, regardless of political beliefs. It’s just people in need being helped by people who just care about them because they’re fellow American citizens,” he said.
