PITTSBURGH, PA (MetroSource-WSAU) The Brewers offense went south during a Saturday doubleheader in Pittsburgh. The Crew managed to score just 3 runs over two games, losing 2-1 and 6-2.
In the opening game, the Pirates got all the runs they’d need in the 1st inning. Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco hit back-to-back home runs off Chase Anderson.
Ivan Nova allowed just one run, but couldn’t get through the fifth inning. Richard Rodriguez got the win in relief and Felipe Vazquez his 22nd save.
In the second game, dour different players homered for the Pirates as they dumped the Brewers 6-2 in the nightcap of their doubleheader at PNC Park. Max Moroff, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco each went deep once and Jordan Luplow homered twice.
Clay Holmes tossed six innings of scoreless ball to pick up the win.
Jesus Aguilar prevented the shutout for Milwaukee with a two-run single in the ninth.
The Pirates have won five straight.
The Brewers have tumbled out of first place in the NL Central, and now trail the Cubs by 1 1/2 games.
