UNDATED (WXPR) — Hydroelectric dams are areas where moving water could cause dangerous ice conditions and Wisconsin Public Service is warning those on the ice to heed their warnings.
WPS spokesperson Leah Van Zile says every year they find evidence of recreationalists going inside poster barriers and warnings where the ice is dangerously thin. “We want to remind folks if they’re going out and doing any ice fishing or recreational activity near our hydroelectric facilities, there most likely will be thin ice in several spots.”
Van Zile says there are well-posted warnings, but she says every year they find evidence that someone ignored the warnings and wandered into the danger zone.
