UNDATED (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team was shutout by Michigan 3-0 Friday night in Ann Arbor. The Friday night lost coupled with last Saturday’s loss is the first time in the modern hockey era that Wisconsin has suffered back-to-back shutouts. The last time that happened was in the 1930’s.
Wisconsin dropped to 4-20-4 overall and just 2-11-2 in the Big Ten Conference.
Badger goalie Joel Rumpel had 31 saves in the losing effort.
Michigan’s goals were scored by Zach Hyman, Zach Werenski, and JT Compher. The Wolverines are now 10-5-0 in conference play. The two teams drop the puck again Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor.
In women’s hockey, Wisconsin can clinch a spot in the WCHA Final Face-Off if they win Saturday. They play St. Cloud State on the road again Saturday after defeating them Friday 5-1.
The lady Badger’s goals came from Sarah Nurse, Brittany Ammerman, Katy Josephs, Baylee Wellhausen, and Rachel Jones. Goalie Anne-Renee Desbiens had 14 saves for Wisconsin.
