WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — The only adult and only female tied to a fatal, gang-related fatal stabbing in Wausau has been sentenced to probation.
20-year-old Nia Phillips pleaded no contest to contributing to the delinquency of a minor resulting in death which is a felony. She’ll be spending three years on probation and will have to take part in community service.
Police say Phillips drove the younger boys who called themselves the Young Restless Squad to the Jefferson Street home of 15-year-old Dylan Yang, where Yang stabbed 13-year-old Isaiah Powell in the back. She also drove Powell to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where he later died. Powell had claimed she had no knowledge that a fight was going to happen, but several of the other teens involved say Phillips was in the car when the two gangs were making threats at each other over speakerphone.
If Phillips has her probation revoked, she could spend a year in jail.
