MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Carlos Gomez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Tests yesterday showed that the Brewers’ outfielder had a slight tear in his right hamstring, and he was given a cortisone injection for it.
Gomez was injured on Wednesday night while legging out a grounder during a ninth-inning rally in a Brewers’ loss at Saint Louis. He returned to Milwaukee to be checked out by team doctor William Raasch. Gomez leads the Brewers with six R-B-I’s, hitting .235 from the lead-off spot with one homer so far.
Assistant general manager Gord Ash said Gomez would be re-evaluated next week — and the team won’t know until then whether he might be out for longer than 15 days. The Brewers are expected to bring up a player from Triple-“A” Colorado Springs before the Crew’s next game tonight at Pittsburgh.
Among the leading candidates are outfielder Shane Peterson and infielder Jason Rogers. Elian Herrera is off to a solid start for Colorado Springs, but he’s currently not on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.
