RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (WSAU) — Rib Mountain’s Planning Commissioners delayed a decision on a proposed second Kwik Trip location on Rib Mountain Drive.
The members of the commission held a public hearing Wednesday night before a packed room, and heard mostly opposition comments from the residents. Some questioned the need for another convenience store and gas station on Rib Mountain Drive. Others opposed having a 24-hour operation with traffic, noises, and lights adjacent to residential property. Several other opponents questioned the safety issues related to traffic flow, pedestrians crossing the intersection, and bicyclists that travel by the site.
Harlan Hebbe moved to deny the plan, saying he has nothing against Kwik Trip, but there a lot of legitimate issues they need to address. Commissioners voted against the motion 3-2, which kept the project alive. Tom Steele made a motion to table the decision a month until town staff and Kwik Trip could bring them answers to the issues brought by the public.
A traffic study is already underway in that area.
Rib Mountain’s Planning Commission will have another public hearing on this proposal next time they meet in May.
