CHICAGO, ILL (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers will try again to get their first two-game winning streak of the season, when they play the Chicago Cubs this afternoon at Wrigley Field. The Brewers are coming off an 8-to-3 win at Cincinnati on Wednesday in which they belted four homers — including two from Ryan Braun.
Milwaukee is now 5-and-17 on the year, and those wins have been far between. The Crew is already 10-and-a-half games behind first-place Saint Louis in the National League Central. The Cubbies are second in the division, two-and-a-half games back with a mark of 12-and-8.
One bright spot for Milwaukee has been reliever Michael Blazek. The 26-year-old right-hander won his first Major League game last week at home against Saint Louis. He has held opponents scoreless in eight appearances, while limiting opponents to just 1-for-28 at the plate. Blazek also has nine strikeouts in nine-and-a-third innings.
Today, right-hander Wily Peralta starts for the Crew against Cubs’ right-hander Jon Lester in a 1:20 first pitch.
