WAUSAU, Wis. (Woodchucks) — Two home runs from Albee Weiss and Jared Oliva powered the Wisconsin Woodchucks to an 8-6 victory over the Lakeshore Chinooks at Athletic Park Wednesday.
Lakeshore snagged a 2-0 lead before the Chucks scored one run in the bottom of the first inning Jared Oliva doubled down the left field line, Connor Heady moved him to third on a sacrifice bunt and Yusuke Akitoshi scored Oliva on a fielder’s choice, making it 2-1.
The Woodchucks took the lead with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a pair of home runs. Yusuke Akitoshi led off the frame with a double and scored on an LJ Hatch single. Then, Albee Weiss crushed a two-run homer to dead center field. Three batters later Jared Oliva smashed a three-run jack to left to put the Chucks ahead 7-2.
After each team scored one run in the fifth, Lakeshore added three runs in the eighth on a Kyle Wood home run, slicing the Woodchuck edge to 8-6.
Wisconsin took that lead to the ninth and counted on Robert Zeigler to secure the victory. Zeigler shut down the Chinooks 1-2-3 in the final frame to grab back-to-back saves and back-to-back victories for the Chucks.
Kyle Dohy started on the hill for the first time as a Woodchuck Wednesday. He gave up four hits and three earned runs while striking out five in four and a third innings of work.
