WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — Two people were taken to the hospital and a third has minor injuries after a two-car crash in Wausau Monday afternoon. The crash happened at Bridge and 10th, just west of Newman Catholic High School. A blue Hyundai with two 23-year-old males was eastbound on Bridge Street and a 93-year-old male was westbound on Bridge in a Mercury Marquis turning left on 10th.
Wausau police say the driver of the Mercury failed to yield the right of way.
Nathan Palmer was the driver of the Hyundai. “An older guy failed to yield on a left turn here, and I didn’t have time to react. I tried to go around him, but I hit the corner of his vehicle and it spun me around into this light here.”
Palmer’s car spun and went sideways, and struck the traffic standard with the passenger door, crushing the passenger compartment. Palmer’s 23-year-old male passenger wasn’t seriously hurt. “My buddy was in the passenger seat. He’s at the hospital now, but they don’t got him in a room yet. He looked fine. He just had some cuts. Same here.”
Both cars are totalled, but Palmer says everybody thankfully looks fine with some minor bumps and scratches.
Wausau Public Works, WPS, and Wausau Police managed the scene for over an hour. Eastbound traffic was detoured to allow emergency vehicles access to the vehicles and the down traffic light.
