BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers skated to a 5-5 overtime tie at Ferris State Friday night.
This was a high-scoring contest, starting with Ferris State’s Gerald Meyhew lighting the lamp at 6:01 in the first period. The Badgers had a productive second period, outscoring Ferris State 4-1 to end the period with a 4-2 lead. Seamus Malone, Jake Linhart, Grant Besse, and Will Johnson all scored for Bucky in the second period, and Meyhew lit the lamp for the second time for the Bulldogs.
The third period was pretty much all Ferris State, as Matt Robertson, Tyler Andrew, and Chad McDonald all scored for the Bulldogs. The McDonald goal with 1:53 to play was reviewed, as many believed there was an offsides penalty, but the goal counted, giving Ferris State the 5-4 lead.
The Badgers weren’t done yet. With the Badger’s net empty, Tim Davison scored for Wisconsin with 19.2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 5-5.
The Bulldogs pulled goalie Darren Smith after one period. He had eight saves. Charles Williams had 13 saves in the final two periods for Ferris State. Wisconsin’s Matt Jurusik recorded 26 saves before he was pulled for an extra attacker with 54 seconds in regulation.
Neither team could score in the overtime period.
Ferris State will host Wisconsin again Saturday. Listen to the action on WSAU AM 550 & FM 99.9 at about 5:30 p.m. right after Badger football coverage.
