STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — Members of the Stevens Point School Board will be brushing up on Wisconsin’s open meetings law.
The board members were taught a lesson in the importance of giving proper public notice before discussing school business.
District Attorney Louis Molepske looked into a complaint from board member Lisa Totten, who criticized President Angel Faxon for informing the board at the meeting last February that an applicant for superintendent had withdrawn. That subject was not on the meeting agenda. Molepske also told the board their agenda was not detailed enough when describing a closed session for contract negotiations, since it didn’t say which teachers or union was being discussed.
Molepske recommended no fines but urges the board to seek open meetings law training to prevent further problems.
