WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — Wausau police are reminding residents that they need to keep aware of the winter parking rules in the city.
Wausau police lieutenant Ben Graham says the usual odd-even alternate side parking rules apply in the winter. “It’s no longer necessary for residents to call the police department to request permission to have their vehicles parked on the street in the winter months.” He says the rule makes it easier for city staff to keep up with road maintenance and plowing. “With the odd-even restriction, they have to move it to the other side depending upon the day, and that allows our snow crews to got through and remove some of those heavier snow falls.”
If the city does get heavier snowfalls, Graham says you’ll need to get your car off the road entirely or face some hefty fines. “If a snow emergency is declared, we would ask that all residents make sure not to park on the roadways. Otherwise, they could face a citation in excess of $100.”
Graham says that you also need to remember that the side you should be parking on corresponds to the time of 2:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. That means if you are going to park overnight, you need to be sure your car will be in the right spot when police start enforcing the ordinance.
