Brett Favre, Hall-Of-Famer. Easy choice no doubt. But we, as fans like to rank things so where would Favre be on a list of the best QBs of all-time? I'm not talking about numbers. Numbers can be predicated on what kind of offense a team runs…what kind of personnel surround him and lots of other factors. Of the quarterbacks in the Pro Football Hall Of Fame, where would Favre fall on the list of the GOAT (greatest of all time). Since it's almost impossible to compare players of the modern era from the real ol-timers we will not rank guys like Sid Luckman, Ace Parker, Dutch Clark, Jimmy Conzelman, Paddy Driscoll, Otto Graham and even “Slingin” Sammy Baugh (who many say was the best ever). Throw out guys like Norm Van Brocklin, Bobby Layne, and Arnie Herber. Joe Namath is in more for winning the Super Bowl with the Jets than anything else. George Blanda is in more as a kicker and because he stayed around forever. Would anyone say that Troy Aikman, Ken Stabler, or Steve Young are the best ever? Young might be able to make a case. Len Dawson, YA Tittle, Fran Tarkenton or Sonny Jurgensen? No. Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, and Warren Moon? Big numbers sure, but no one will make a case for them as GOAT. How about the field generals who won alot of big games…Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese, Bart Starr, Roger Staubach? Some will but not me. So that leaves four…John Elway, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas and Brett Favre. Of all the quarterbacks I've listed, if you needed to win one game and your life was on the line…who would you want running the offense?
There will be a Brett Favre biography coming out in November. It will be interesting to see if they cover everything…the good and the bad…and let's face it, there was some bad.
We have another #1 hoops team in Central Wisconsin. The Port Edwards boys are now #1 in Division 5. Stevens Point remains unbeaten and ranked first in D-1.
I'll be at the East gym tonight for boys hoops as the Lumberjacks host Rhinelander. You can hear it live at 7:20 on Foxsports Radio AM1390 & FM 93.9 and live streamed at foxsportswausau.com.
Where were you on this day in 1964?
