WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — An attempt to buy more time by a man accused of killing a Wausau woman failed in court Friday. 36-year-old Kristopher Torgerson is serving as his own attorney while charged with causing the death of Stephanie Lowe.
Stephanie Low went missing when she was 22-years-old in October of 2010. Her body was been found September 19th of 2014 in a shallow grave, in a wooded area near Wabeno. Torgerson led police to the body of the woman he buried. Documents say there were signs of a struggle in Low’s apartment, and that they believe Torgerson stabbed Low while trying to get drugs from her apartment. It wasn’t until police interviewed accomplices who helped move and bury Low that they could piece the details together.
Judge Greg Huber denied the motion for a continuance, meaning Torgerson will not have more time to work on his defense. There are motions hearings on the court calendar for May 25th, and a three-week long jury trial scheduled to begin July 18th.
Torgerson is already serving prison time for unrelated drug charges. The court ordered the prosecutors to continue sending discovery information to Toregerson in prison, so that he may prepare his case.
