WAUSAU/MERRILL Wis. (WSAU) — A couple of long-awaited swimming pool construction projects are finished, and open for use.
In Merrill, the Bierman Family Aquatic Center opened for the first time Friday, with two double-spiral water slides, a basketball hoop, rock climbing wall, and a water play area. The new Merrill pool and amenities were built with a four million dollar donation from the Bierman Family Foundation. The city hasn’t had a municipal swimming pool for the past four years.
In Wausau, Friday was also the ribbon cutting day for the new Memorial Pool. The second of the three Wausau pool reconstruction projects made its debut on schedule. The first Wausau swimming pool replacement was last year at Kaiser Pool, and right now, the Schulenburg Pool is being rebuilt for opening next year. Wausau’s three swimming pool projects will cost around nine million dollars when complete. Last year, city officials were pleasantly surprised by the increased pool pass and concession revenues generated at Kaiser Pool due to increased demand. They are hoping to see similar results at Memorial Pool this year.
