WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Woodson YMCA will be offering a 12-week class for those with diabetes on how to manage the disease.
Shannon Wagman is the Senior Health and Wellness Director at the Aspirus YMCA and explains what exactly will be going on at these classes.
She said, “Learning just overall health by focusing on the healthy eating (and) physical activity. And, so during that time what they’re going to be doing is meeting with nutritionists, with personal trainers, (and) with a lifestyle coach.”
Wagman also says this isn’t just for members of the YMCA.
“This is open to our community,” said Wagman. “It’s for members and non-members. It’s a free program from the YMCA. The class is limited to 12 people. It’s funded through our Woodson YMCA Foundation. They just really recognize that there’s such an urgency in our community for these diabetic patients.”
The group will meet Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-7 pm starting January 10th. To sign up for the group you can call the Woodson YMCA at 715-845-2177. You will need a note from your doctor saying it is okay for you to exercise before you will be allowed to participate in the group.
