MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) — It’ll be a busy night for Marshfield’s Common Council on Tuesday, when new downtown parking regulations, stop-gap financing for the Community Center renovation project, and a proposed telecommunications tower are all on the agenda.
A proposed telcom tower on the city’s southeast side could net the city around $10,000 in annual land rental fees, but Alderman Jason Zaleski says some residents in his district are opposed to the 130-foot tall tower on the Pecan Parkway green-way.
“The tower would be a bit of an eye sore,” Zaleski said. “What you see there, on this proposed property at 17th Street and Pecan Parkway is a very nice, very lush, very beautiful area.”
A plan to improve downtown parking is also on the agenda and could be OK’d Tuesday night. The new regulations would go into effect next month and affect the city’s parking lots as well as on-street parking.
“Trying to work with an existing framework like downtown is difficult, but I think we’re doing pretty well.” Alderman Ed Wagner said about the plan. “There will be parking spaces there where people want them.”
The Council will also be deciding whether to fill an approximate $300,000 shortfall in funding for the city’s Community Center project with new borrowing, or by using other existing city funds.
Alderman Tom Witzel said, “I think we need to see this project to fruition. Where the funding comes from, I guess that’s to be debated. Whether it’s borrowing or utilizing other unrestricted funds, if we can do something about borrowing, I’m all about that as well.”
That meeting gets underway at 7:00 Tuesday night in the Council Chambers of Marshfield City Hall.
