Why do people feel the need to collect morbid stuff? Having dead celebrity memorabilia seems to be a thing and it annoys me for some reason. While the release from prison of OJ Simpson will undoubtably fuel a resurgence in his stuff (it seemed everybody on social media was watching that hearing yesterday..did it make you feel unclean?) it was another item that caught my attention this week. Moments in Time, an apparently legitimate autograph/memorabilia dealer, is going to auction off the copy of the album “Double Fantasy” that John Lennon autographed for his killer Mark David Chapman. The asking price is 1.5 million dollars. The album was used as evidence in Chapman's trial and includes “forensically enhanced fingerprints” along with Lennon's autograph. It also includes a copy of the police report. All I can say if this is something you would be interested in purchasing and displaying in your home you are a sick individual.
BTW…this company also once sold ther car that Biggie Smalls was murdered in.
Looking forward to seeing Christopher Nolan's film “Dunkirk” sometime soon. He calls it his most experimental film since 'Memento”. Since I loved that movie and since the subject matteris such an important historical story that has never really been told on film…it should be interesting.
The Wausau Legion baseball team remained alive yesterday with a 5-2 win over Plover at the AAA Regional. They have to beat Stevens Point twice today to advance to next week's state tournament in Kimberly. First game is at 4pm.
You want to know about “Fake News” how bout this. A research team from the University of Washington has used artificial intelligence technology to make a video of Brack Obama giving a speech he did not give. This wasn't one of those bad lip-reading videos. This was the researchers actually altering a real Oval Office address so it looked like Obama was saying things they wanted him to say. Most who have seen it say you would never know it's fake. With photo shop we already can't believe our own eyes with altered pictures…now political “consultants” will be able to manipulate the voting public even more. A big chunk of the voting public is already susceptible to charlatans (hence the rise of Trump) but this tool is potentially so dangerous the idea of banning it should certainly be considered. But, as with all technology, the genie is out of the bottle, and unscrupulous people will use it to continue to try and scam us.
