WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Recovery coach training has been happening in Wausau over the last few days. DarJune Community Center from Green Bay and Step Industries from Milwaukee have been conducting the training.
Melissa Moore, Drug Free Communities Program Coordinator for Marathon County, explains what exactly a recovery coach is.
She said, “It’s really a step above an AA, NA, or traditional sponsor structure, and really looking at how is it that we can meet (drug users) needs. What this training does is it offers a higher level of training and certification similar to peer-to-peer specialists.”
Moore says this is just another step in fighting the drug related issues in Wisconsin.
“The recovery coaching training is really looking at recovery for a number of things,” said Moore. “It’s going to include things like mental health. It’s going to include opiates. It’s going to include meth, alcohol, you name it. It’s really just looking at the addictive personality. I see this training as the first of hopefully many.”
This training was the first of it’s kind in the Wausau area. Moore says there was about 25 people who participated in the training and there’s already a waiting list for the next training session coming up at the end of October.
Moore says if you’re interested in learning more about the program or the training you can contact her at 715-261-1962.
