UNDATED (WSAU) – Kmart is announcing a new round of store closings, including their location in Stevens Point.
On Thursday parent-company Sears Holdings announced that 45 Kmarts would close around the country. The Stevens Point store is the only one in Wisconsin to be shuttered. Another 18 low-performing Sears stores will be closed. Yesterday’s press release also says there is substantial doubt about the entire company’s ability to stay in business.
The Kmart on Division Street will begin a liquidation sale later in November. The store will stay open through Christmas and will close permanently in late January.
There are now fewer than 700 Kmarts remaining in the US, and Sears has closed nearly 3,000 of its retail locations since 2010.
