WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The city’s Park and Recreation Committee is set to revisit the debate over the use of tobacco in some city parks, not one week after the full City Council voted down a ban in all outdoor areas.
The item is part of Monday’s committee meeting to be held at city hall. According to the agenda they’ll discuss the use of tobacco in all city parks and on the River Edge Trail. Last Tuesday’s vote was for an all-out ban on the use of cigarettes in city parks, however some Alderperson’s suggested using other methods to cut down on secondhand smoke in open areas. Lisa Rasmussen said all options need to be considered, and if those fail a total ban should be the last resort.
The measure failed by a 6-5 vote.

Other items the committee will discuss include the possibility of installing an ice rink in the Riverview Neighborhood, possible areas for a dog park, and allowing Wausau youth baseball teams to sell outfield fence advertising on any ballparks they use.
