WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Both gubernatorial candidates, Democrat Tony Evers, and incumbent Governor Scott Walker talked about President Trump’s upcoming visit to Wisconsin while campaigning on Saturday.
Walker, while in Weston, told WAOW-TV that he asked the President to come to Central Wisconsin over the phone during Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to the state. “When Mike Pence the vice president was in state specifically told him, asked him to come to the Wausau area. I thought this was a good part of the state, I thought people were interested.”
Evers, when asked about the President’s visit, said his focus was on the race against Governor Walker, not President Trump. “I’m not running against Donald Trump. He can come every day if he wants to, it doesn’t make any difference to me. I’m running against Scott Walker and he’s got a record that we’re going to be talking about. And we’re also going to be talking about important visions for the future of the state of Wisconsin.”
A Washington Post article was released last week claiming advisors to the President told him not to go to Wisconsin as Walker was likely to lose his race to Evers. Walker feels the article doesn’t hold water. “The Washington Post is full of lies. There’s no truth to it what so ever. I talked to him myself on the phone right in the vehicle with Mike Pence.”
President Trump will be in Mosinee at the Central Wisconsin Airport on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. Tickets are still available for his visit at http://www.donaldjtrump.com
