RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) Good news for area skiiers. Saturday was opening day for Granite Peak in Rib Mountain.
Staff said hundreds of skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes for the first day of the season. Attendance exceeded expectations.
“I think we were expecting a good rush but not nearly as much as is here today,” Lisa Zilinsky, Director of Marketing at Granite Peak, said.
There is also a new gate system on the lifts this year. Staff said it will help keep track of attendance and avoid people using passes that aren’t theirs.
Granite Peak will be open through Sunday, then closed Monday and Tuesday. They’ll re-open on Wednesday.
