TOWN OF HANSEN, WI (WSAU) — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a single-vehicle rollover that killed one person Thursday morning in Wood County.
Sheriff’s officials say it happened in the Town of Hansen early Thursday morning when they received a call about a vehicle that was on its roof in a cranberry marsh, partially submerged in water. When first responders arrived on the scene they found two people with serious injuries.
Shortly after they arrived the driver’s pulse began fading. Life-saving treatment was administered, but the man was later pronounced dead by the Wood County Coroner.
The passenger was taken to Marshfield Medical Center. An update on his condition has not been made available. It’s unclear how much time elapsed between when the crash happened and when it was reported, and how long the occupants were exposed to the cold.
The crash remains under investigation. Assisting agencies included the Vesper and Pittsville Fire Departments and Life Link III.
