WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — It’s Peoples State Bank’s annual “12 Days of Christmas” campaign.
Wednesday of the campaign focused on family’s who are spending their holidays at Aspirus NICU. Meredith Otte, the Assistant Vice President for the Bank has a personal connection to the cause as she spent the holidays in the NICU two years ago.
Otte told WAOW-TV that her heart goes out to those going through the same situation this year. “You know, my heart goes out to all the families that are here right now. Because when you live through something and you’re able to make their experience arguably better than yours by showing a little bit of love. It’s a lot of fun.”
She explains the thought process she had when in the hospital for the holidays. “Why am I here? Why can’t I go home? When will I get to go home? And it’s just a really hard time especially with social media you see everybody having fun with their family, those holiday moments. And you’re in the hospital with your baby and you can’t leave.”
Otte says she wanted to give back in this way to let other families know there are people cheering for a speedy recovery. “I wanted to let those families know that somebody else has lived it. Other people care. Other people are cheering for them, hoping, praying that their little ones have a speedy recovery and can go home soon.”
The campaign contribution from Otte helped eight families in Aspirus’ NICU. The campaign runs for four more days as the bank hopes to continue spreading love and joy in the community.
