STEVENS POINT and EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP men and women went 1-1 on Saturday against Eau Claire in WIAC play.
It was a long night for the women as the Bluegolds’ defense proved to be too much in a 79-54 result. Taylor Greenheck led the scoring effort with 15 points, Brooke Geier added eight and six rebounds.
UWEC held the Pointers to just 29% from the field in the contest (17-58), including 6-32 from 3-point range. The Bluegolds connected on 47% of their field goal attempts including 4-10 from long distance.
Meanwhile in Eau Claire Canon O’Heron scored the game high with 23 points to lead the Pointers over UWEC 68-53.
Drew Fredrickson and Nate Dodge both added 11 points in the win. Ethan Bublitz scored 10 points. Those four starters combined for 55 of the Pointer’s 68 points in the contest, with Center Brett Tauber adding seven.
The remaining six points came from Garrett Nelson off the bench.
O’Heron added 10 rebounds in the win.
The Pointers ranked #9 in last week’s Divison III hoops poll, are now 11-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Next up for the Pointers is UW-La Crosse. The men will be at home on Wednesday, with the women on the road that same night.
