MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — A new pet shelter being planned in Marshfield will break ground this coming spring, as much as a year earlier than originally anticipated.
That’s according to fundraising chair for the project, Bill Heiting, who says enough money’s been raised to get the project started, and to have it completed by the end of the year.
“We expect to have the project done this year. It’s all going to be done. And we have the funding for it so we’re getting the quotes now to make sure that they fit in, or how much extra I need to get yet,” Heiting said.
Even though planning is ahead of schedule, Heiting says the city can still hold off on their $200,000 contribution to the project until 2020, as originally planned. “We can supply the funding to carry us through it if we build it this year. But my assumption is that the council will be appropriating us the $200,000.”
The shelter’s been temporarily housed in the Marshfield Municipal Airport’s old terminal building for the last four years, and their new location will be a 2.5 acre parcel in Marshfield’s ‘Air Park.’
