WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A former bed and breakfast in Wausau will soon become a convent.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church has purchased the Everest Inn and will be turning it into a convent this fall. Three sisters from the Sisters Adorers of the Royal Heart of Jesus Christ Sovereign Priest will come to Wausau to live in the convent from Florence Italy.
Canon Aaron Huberfeld of St. Mary’s tells WAOW-TV the nuns will set a good example for those in the community.
“It’ll be just a beautiful thing for the entire community here in Wausau to see nuns in full habit on the streets as part of our community. But most of all the fact that they will be here praying for everyone, especially right in our own world here in Wausau, in this area, and this part of Wisconsin.”
This will be the sisterhood’s first convent in the United States. Seven women from Wausau have traveled to Italy to join the sisterhood. The sale for the Inn will be final on May 30th. And the three nuns who haven’t been chosen yet will move into the convent in the fall.
