WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former DC Everest school teacher accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl has had his trial scheduled.
Peter Schmidt of Mosinee made a court appearance on Wednesday where a judge set his trial to run from February 4th-7th, 2020.
The 56-year-old is accused of meeting the girl through various social media applications then luring her to his home, where he tied her up and raped her.
The girl said he continued to contact her in the weeks that followed the August 2016 incident until she blocked him on all applications.
Charges against him include 1st Degree Child Sexual Assault, Child Enticement, Use of a Computer to Facilitate a Sex Crime, and False Imprisonment.
Police also found 45 grams of marijuana after searching Schmidt’s home.
Shortly after news of the incident came to light in the fall of 2018, Schmidt was placed on leave from the DC Everest School District and officials emphasized that the girl involved was not a student at the school.
In a separate court appearance on Thursday, a judge modified the terms of Schmidt’s bond, setting a $50,000 cash and $100,000 signature bond. Conditions of the bond include no contact with the victim or any child under the age of 18 and no use of social media. Additionally, he may only travel in Wisconsin for doctors appointments.
Schmidt is also accused of an OWI while he was out on bond for the initial charges. For that case, he will have review hearings scheduled to run alongside the February trial dates.
In that case, Schmidt is accused of driving erraticly down Business 51 after a night of drinking. Officers said his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Additionally, a marijuana pipe was found in his possession.
Schmidt will return to court on June 26th for a status conference and again on January 3rd, 2020 for a final pre-trial hearing. He has pled not guilty to all charges against him.
