MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) — Yet another well-known retail giant is leaving Marshfield and will be closing by the end of July. That’s according to Todd Giraud who has owned the Sears Hometown store on Marshfield’s busy north side since 2014.
Giraurd declined making any further comments about the closing, saying a statement from the Sears corporate office in Illinois will be forthcoming.
He also declined comment as to whether a recent merger agreement involving several of Sears Hometown stores’ major shareholders was behind the closing. That merger transaction reunites Sears and Kmart with Sears Hometown, which was spun off from Sears Holdings Corporation in 2012.
Sears Hometown still maintains a network of more than 600 Hometown and outlet stores located in 49 states.
Giraud did tell WSAU News that he owns two other Sears locations, including one in Sparta, that will remain open.
Sears is the most recent in a string of retail closures in Marshfield that include Younker’s, Office Max, Figi’s Outlet Store, J.C. Penney’s, and Shopko.
The Marshfield Sears location is currently in liquidation mode, and it’s last full day of business will be July 27th.
