I think it was 1968. We would spend the summer playing sandlot baseball at Boileau Field next to Athletic Park. My friend Scott Reynolds lived on Union Ave a couple of houses away from the ballpark. We would head there to cool off with Kool-Aid or popsicles. His older brother Denny played keyboards in a rock band and had his large electric piano/organ set up in their small kitchen. We would mess around with it and he taught us to play the opening to the song Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream. At that point I didnt know much of anything about Cream. I was a Top 40 kid and if Cream did enter my consciousness it was maybe hearing White Room once in awhile that year. In fact, I'm told Cream played in Stevens Point during their existence. I've gotten more aquainted with the band over the years and have watched several excellent documentaries about them and also the making of the classic Lp Disraeli Gears. I mention all this because of the passing over the weekend of drummer Ginger Baker. Baker laid down the eclectic beats for Cream, Blind Faith and his own outfit Ginger Baker's Air Force over a long career. If you listen to him play you know he wasnt simply a timekeeper. He had a background in jazz and it came through in his playing. Ginger Baker was 80 and had been in poor health for awhile. Here are some examples of his work…

“Mob boss wants something. Asks “nicely” so he can claim it wasn’t a demand.
-Mob lawyer tries to make demand happen & hide behind attorney-client privilege.
-Underboss & Capos carry out different parts of the plan.
-They get caught & all claim not to know the whole.
The end.”-Mimi Rocah

“In the time it took me to cross the street, the president* asked two foreign countries to help him ratfck the 2020 election.
That’s some impressive crimin’ right there.”-Charles Pierce
