MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Governor Tony Evers has announced new dates for the special election to fill a vacancy in Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district.
The general election will be on May 12, 2020.
Primaries, if necessary, will be on February 18, 2020, the same day as the spring primaries for the April elections.
Candidates who wish to run will need to turn in their nominating papers my December 2, 2019.
Evers had announced an earlier election date for January. That date was invalid because of the federal Uniformed Overseas Absentee Voting Act. And the primary, in late December, would have fallen during Hanukkah.
The 7th district seat is vacant because of the resignation of Sean Duffy. He and his wife are caring for a newborn baby with a heart defect. Duffy said he wanted to spend more time with his family.
