WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) The snow that fell on Thursday set a new record for Wausau. 2019 is now the snowiest calendar year in city history.
Six inches of snow fell in the Wausau area, bringing the 2019 snowfall total to 105 inches. That breaks the old record of 101 inches from 1909.
Last winter saw heavy snow in January and February, with additional late-season storms in April. February 2019 totaled more than 50 inches of snow for the month.
It is only the second time Wausau has received more than 100 inches of snowfall in a calendar year. We were just short in 1996 with 99 inches and in 1985 with 95 inches.
