WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man with multiple OWI charges is facing another after leaving the scene of an accident then telling officers he needed “more booze.”
Randy Svendsen, 53, is being held on a $50,000 cash bond after he allegedly drove his car into another vehicle at the intersection of Sherman Street and S 17th Avenue, then took off for home.
Officers say the victim had a green light but was hit by a vehicle that turned into hers in the intersection. That driver then took off, but witnesses were able to get the license plate.
When officers arrived at Svendsen’s home, they found a vehicle matching that plate and damage but didn’t find him. Then, a nearby resident reported a man passed out on the sidewalk with injuries on his head.
That man turned out to be Svendsen, who reportedly told officers he had been “drunk driving” and wanted to go to a nearby store for more booze. When officers asked how much he had to drink, he responded with “Too (expletive) much, cop.”
He was treated at Aspirus Wausau. The results of his chemical blood test are pending. Charges against him include hit-and-run causing injury and a 7th OWI.
Svendsen returns to court on January 2nd. His most recent OWI conviction was in 2014.
