WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Court documents show a Nekoosa man admitted to abusing a 20-year-old woman just before she died in January.
Paul Carter faces first-degree intentional homicide charges in the case stemming from the death of Samantha Roberts, who had cerebral palsy and was also described as non-verbal.
Police say Roberts and two family members, her mother and sister, were home at the time of her death. Carter was also home at the time.
Samantha’s mother says she was taking a bath at the time of her death. When she got out of the tub, she noticed Samatha was having a medical emergency and called for help. When first responders arrived, she was pronounced dead.
Police say Roberts’ mother told them that Carter admitted to her he had pulled her hair and hit her before her death, but it’s not clear exactly when that happened.
Carter is being held on $1 million bond. Further court action against him has not been scheduled.
