PLATTEVILLE and STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — It was the final day of the regular season for WIAC men’s and women’s basketball squads on Saturday.
The UWSP men fell to regular-season champions Platteville 70-69 after a last-second shot came up just short by Ethan Bublitz.
Bublitz scored the game-high with 23 points including 4 three-point baskets. Garrett Nelson scored 14 in the loss. Brandon Spray led the Pointers with 11 rebounds.
The game was tight throughout featuring 6 ties and 13 lead changes.
With the loss, UWSP finishes the season at 15-10 overall and a level 7-7 in WIAC play. They did qualify for the WIAC Men’s Basketball Championship presented by Culvers and will travel to UW Eau Claire for a first-round matchup on Tuesday at 8 PM.
The women scored an 85-78 win over Platteville to play their way into the WIAC tournament as well behind 23 points and nine rebounds from Bailee Collins. Taylor Greenheck added 16 points in the win.
Greenheck was perfect on the day, going 4-4 from the field and 7-7 from the free-throw line.
The Pointers jumped out to an early lead in the contest. Platteville fought back late in the first half but UWSP was able to close the contest out late.
UWSP will travel to UWEC in the first round of the WIAC Championship presented by Culvers on Tuesday as well, game time is set for 6 PM.
