MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Police in Madison say there’s been a break in a 12-year-old cold case involving the death of a Marshfield student.
Interim Police Chief Vic Wahl announced on Friday that David A. Kahl has been charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide for the death of Brittany Zimmermann.
Kahl, 53, is in prison on an unrelated charge. Police say he had been going door-to-door in the neighborhood asking residents for money on the day of the incident.
Kahl has never admitted to the crime but did not deny being at her apartment. Officers say they found a piece of her clothing with his DNA on it.
Zimmermann was 21 at the time of her death. She had been living with her fiance in the apartment.
