RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) – Rhinelander utility officials report about 1,000 gallons of sewage overflowed Tuesday evening into the Pelican River.
The sanitary sewer overflow happened about 8:30pm. A blockage was discovered in the 900 block of Boyce Drive, with sewage coming up through a single manhole structure. The Water & Wastewater department quickly removed the blockage.
The sewage moved overland to the Pelican River watershed. Crew members took steps to limit a possible public health hazard or environmental damages.
The Department of Natural Resources was notified of the overflow.
No basement backups were reported because of the blockage.
