MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) After the American Cancer Society closed down Hope Lodge, due to COVID-19, Marshfield Clinic took immediate action. Cattails Cottage is the name of the new interim home, able to house 11 patients at a time.
The housing was previously used for hospice and medical students. But now will be filled with patients from far and wide. “Many of our cancer patients travel hours to come to Marshfield Clinic for our care coming from Minocqua and Rice Lake in the upper Peninsula of Michigan we need to have a boy so we need to have a place for them to stay” Teri Wilczek, MC Philanthropy Officer, told WAOW-TV.
The Columbus Catholic High School boys basketball team assisted with the move-in and opening of the facility. “Fighting cancer and that’s a disease that has touched our school and all of our families so anytime The Marshfield Clinics need help with anything related to that will be the first ones to stop up and I’m really proud of our students because they heard were helping it was needed and they were here,” said head coach Joe Konieczny.
“I thought they did great. They worked hard it wasn’t easy they all had their masks on another social distancing rules so again I’m just very very proud of them” continued Konieczny.
