County and state fairs all over the country have been canceled this year. That’s why a new bill was introduced called the Agricultural Fairs Rescue Act. The goal of the act is to help the fairs that decided to postpone until next year.
They want to make sure none of the fairs have to shut down indefinitely if they lost out on a significant amount of money in 2020. The act would give $500 million in grants for these fairs and would be handed out by USDA. Keep in mind, there’s no set amount that each fair would receive. The grants are based off of the amount of attendance each fair lost for the 2020 season.
The act could be very important to agriculture because fairs are such an easy way to get the conversation started about modern agriculture. Not to mention, county fairs have been around for 250 years! They play a big role in communities all over the country, especially in Wisconsin. Fairs peak interest in the ag industry and also help spread the word about the positive impact 4-H and FFA have on today’s youth.
