MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — The state of Wisconsin is adding even more COVID-19 testing capacity.
During a Tuesday news conference, Governor Tony Evers says the state has expanded its lab capacity and the ability to test more people for the virus.
“We’ve gone from having no capacity in early March to now in August exceeding our current goal with a capacity of over 150,000 tests per week,” Evers said during a Tuesday press briefing.
That’s over 24,000 tests per day. Wisconsin Department of Health Services Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk says the additional capacity will be used primarily for those in skilled nursing facilities.
Officials say increased capacity has also allowed the state to more effectively respond to local outbreaks.
There are currently 83 active labs running tests in Wisconsin.
