MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Northeast region of Wisconsin is seeing a growing trend of coronavirus activity, according to the state’s weekly update.
Manitowoc County is one of three counties in the state that are seeing a growing trend of cases. Shawano County, however, is one of four that are seeing a shrinking trajectory.
All area counties are listed as having high activity and high burden, except Door, Green Lake and Waushara counties, which are listed as having moderately high burden. Burden is defined as number of cases per 100,000 residents, while activity level is a combination of burden and the trajectory of the numbers.
Meanwhile, the state Department of Health Services reported 663 new positive tests and 8,766 negative tests on Wednesday. The seven-day average of new cases stood at 747 following the day’s report.
Wednesday’s 7% positive test rate was below the seven-day average, which rose to 8% for the first time since early May.
The state also reported eight new deaths, pushing the total to 1,060. The seven-day average of deaths increased to seven.
As of Wednesday, there were 67,493 total confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,084,163 negative tests in Wisconsin. DHS considered 58,244 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
