MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – As more positive coronavirus cases are linked to parties and other gatherings in Wisconsin, state health officials are releasing a new tool for people to measure the potential risk levels of different events.
“Staying home is the safest thing to do, and we know that’s tough and that people are tired of COVID,” says Division of Public Health Interim Administrator Stephanie Smiley, “Because we know people are choosing to do different activities, we want you to have the tools to make the safest decisions that you can.”
The decision tool is designed to walk people through questions to consider prior to making decisions regarding which social activities to engage in, and how to make the safest decisions possible.
“The intent of this tool is to empower you to make decisions based on how activities can impact you, your family, and your entire community,” Smiley explains, “So it’s our hope that your decision is to stay home but if not we want you to take as many precautions as possible to keep everyone safe.”
Positive COVID-19 cases tied to mass gatherings grew from 7% of cases in May to 21% in June and 20% in July.
