MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Coronavirus activity statewide is seeing a shrinking trend, but activity is growing in the Northeast region.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ weekly dashboard says virus activity is growing in Brown, Fond du Lac, Green Lake and Outagamie counties. All are listed as having high burdens and high activity levels.
The news is better in other area counties. After local officials in Marinette County warned of increasing activity earlier this summer, the state now says Marinette County is seeing a shrinking trend, though the burden and activity level are still considered high. Kewaunee, Shawano and Waushara counties have moderately high burdens and high activity levels. Menominee County has a moderate burden and medium activity level. All other area counties have high burdens and high activity levels.
Burden is defined as cases per 100,000 residents in the past two weeks, while activity combines the burden and trajectory.
Meanwhile, the state reported 768 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, pushing the seven-day average to 681. There were 9,610 negative tests, with the 7.4% positivity rate coming in below the seven-day average of 8.1%.
DHS reported six new deaths, on pace with the seven-day average.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 72,260 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 1.1 million negative tests. As of Wednesday, DHS considered 63,730 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Hospitalization data had not been updated by early afternoon.
